On Memorial Day I am remembering my father-in-law who piloted a B-24 Liberator in the Pacific Theater in World War II. He was brave, strong, talented and dedicated to protecting the country he loved. I knew him as a kind, gentle, generous and loving man. Let\'s remember the thousands who gave so much\--including their lives\--and continue to give every single day. Most importantly, let\'s reflect on why they served, sacrificed and often died in their youth\--they were fighting to protect our democracy, imperfect though it may be.
